Ningxia polytechnic is a comprehensive university subordinate to the People's Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, which integrates higher vocational education, adult education, non academic education, continuing education and other school running tasks. It undertakes the important responsibility of improving Ningxia vocational education system, building a skilled society and the historical mission of building a lifelong education system and a learning society in Ningxia. The school was established with the approval of the People's Government of the Autonomous Region in April —, and was merged by the former Ningxia Radio and Television University, Ningxia Heavy Industry Staff University, Ningxia Staff College of Science and Technology, and Ningxia Mechanical Technical School. It was officially established in July —. After —, Ningxia Agricultural School, Ningxia Light Industry School, Ningxia Agricultural Reclamation Workers Secondary Vocational School and Ningxia People's Armed Forces School were incorporated into the school.

Higher vocational education of the university: Ningxia polytechnic, closely following the needs of Ningxia's industrial development, has set up 51 majors (directions), covering 10 major categories, including agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry, materials and energy, chemical technology, equipment manufacturing, pharmacy, electronic information, financial tourism, modern textiles, art design media, health services, etc. There are 2 national high-level professional groups, 3 national demonstration specialties supported by the central government, 2 national projects to enhance the development capacity of professional service industry, and 23 pilot specialties of "1+X" certificate system.
