Masar helps students from Algeria and elsewhere find and apply to programmes in China. To do that we need some information about you. This page explains what we collect, why, who else sees it and what you can ask us to do with it. We handle personal data in line with Algerian Law No. 18-07 on the protection of personal data.

What we collect

  • Account details: your name, email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), nationality and phone number.
  • Profile details you choose to add: date of birth, education, grades, passport number, budget, work experience and family information.
  • Documents you upload for an application, such as passports, certificates and transcripts, and receipts for payments.
  • Messages you send us through the chat, including any files attached to them.
  • Your results on the majors quiz, the English placement test and the CSCA practice tests.
  • Activity in your account: programmes and universities you save or follow, applications you start, and when you were last active.
  • If you turn on notifications: a technical address for your browser that lets us send them. Turning notifications off deletes it.
  • Sign-in records: the date and time, your IP address, the approximate country and city that address points to, and your browser type each time you sign in or create an account, including failed sign-in attempts to your account.

Why we use it

  • To run your account and show you programmes you are eligible for.
  • To prepare and follow your applications with universities, and to confirm payments.
  • To answer your questions and keep you informed about your file.
  • To understand how actively you are using the service (for example whether you have saved programmes, taken tests or started an application), so we can prioritise help for students who are ready to apply.
  • To keep accounts secure, for example by spotting repeated failed sign-ins or sign-ins from unusual places, and to understand which countries and cities our students are in.

Who we share it with

  • Universities and admission offices you apply to receive the information and documents that application needs. We do not send your file anywhere you have not applied.
  • Service providers who run the platform for us: Vercel (website hosting and file storage) and Neon (database). Your database records and uploaded files are stored on servers in Frankfurt, Germany.
  • If you signed up through one of our partners' referral links, that partner can see your first name, when you joined and how far your application has got — not your contact details, documents or payments.
  • We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Visitor statistics and cookies

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits to pages in aggregate. It does not use cookies and does not store your IP address. The site itself sets only the cookies it needs to work: one that keeps you signed in, and ones that remember your language and currency.

How long we keep it

  • Your account, profile, documents, messages and results are kept while your account exists.
  • Sign-in records (IP address, approximate location and browser) are deleted automatically after 90 days.
  • Payment records may be kept after an account is closed where we need them to account for money received.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have your account and data deleted. You can also object to how we use it. Some records, such as confirmed payments, may need to be kept for accounting even after you ask us to delete your account; we will tell you if that applies.

Students under 18

Some programmes accept students under 18. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian should agree to you creating an account and should be involved in any application.

Security

Passwords are stored as secure hashes, documents and receipts are kept private and are only shown to you and to our staff, and access to student files is limited to staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you do not use anywhere else.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top.
