What the CSCA is
The China Scholastic Competency Assessment is a standardised entrance exam for international students applying to Chinese undergraduate programs. Before it existed, every university judged foreign applicants against a different yardstick; the CSCA gives them one common scale.
It was introduced for the 2026 intake, starting with Chinese Government Scholarship applicants and a group of participating universities, and is expected to widen to effectively all undergraduate applicants by 2028. If you are applying for a bachelor's degree, assume you will need it and check each program rather than hoping you are exempt.
Taken at home with remote proctoring, or computer- and paper-based at centres in some countries.
