Shanghai Academy of social sciences is a comprehensive humanities and social sciences research institution in Shanghai. It is the earliest Academy of Social Sciences established by the people's Republic of China and the first batch of degree awarding units approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.
Founded in —, the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences was formed by the merger of the Shanghai Institute of economics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shanghai Institute of history, the Shanghai Institute of Finance and economics, the East China School of political science and law, and the law department of Fudan University.
According to the official website of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences in August —, the Academy of social sciences has 17 research institutes, 12 management departments, 6 units directly under the academy and 17 research centers directly under the Academy; There are about 760 active staff.
