As the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) was jointly founded by Beijing Normal University (BNU) and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). UIC is the first modern college in the Chinese mainland that upholds a liberal arts education, situated in Zhuhai city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

UIC's charter has been approved by the Ministry of Education with full support from local authorities. Professor Xu Jialu, former Vice-Chairman of Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and Professor Ng Ching-Fai, founding President of UIC, made this innovative College a reality. The highest governing body is the UIC Council. The President is responsible for the day-to-day business of the College while also reporting to the UIC Council. Professor Xu Jialu serves as Chairman of the UIC Council, and Professor Tang Tao, who is a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the current UIC President.

UIC shoulders the historical mission of advancing the internationalisation of Chinese higher education and taking the lead in implementing liberal arts education in China. Since its first enrolment in —, UIC has grown into an international institution with innovative educational approaches.

With English as the medium of instruction, UIC's education is of international standards with high-calibre academic performance. The college has established the Divisions of Business and Management, Culture and Creativity, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, in addition to the Graduate School. Altogether UIC offers 29 undergraduate programmes, and is approved to offer nine research and five taught postgraduate programmes for over — students. Undergraduates receive HKBU Bachelor's Degrees and UIC Graduation Certificates, and postgraduates earn HKBU degrees.

Aiming to serve China and the world, UIC has built a new model for liberal arts education in China by tapping into traditional Chinese and Western cultural resources. A liberal arts education cultivates open-minded, well-rounded talents, enabling students to dig into their academic field of expertise with an interdisciplinary approach. UIC provides a student-centred learning environment and encourages a healthy student-teacher interaction that benefits both parties in terms of mentorship and collaboration.

UIC enrols students from 30 provinces and regions of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas. More than 74.5% of the graduates from the Class of — chose postgraduate studies home and abroad, 81% of which were admitted to the world’s top 100 universities. Many of the graduates have started their careers in Fortune 500 companies, government agencies or non-profit organisations. There are also alumni listed in Forbes 30 under 30.

UIC has an international staff with lecturers and professors from more than 30 countries and regions. All of them have studied or worked abroad. Many faculty members come from the world's top universities, providing students with the best academic resources and advanced teaching methods. As of March —, the College has attracted many tip-top scholars who together have nudged UIC into the nation’s top 100 in the concentration of high-calibre talents.

With students and staff from all over the world, UIC creates an internationalised campus environment and introduces students to different cultures. As of March —, UIC has established partnerships with more than 50 higher education institutions from various countries, which provides opportunities for students to travel and experience foreign cultures and education.
