The school has always shared the fate of the nation and the pulse of the times. A hundred years ago, as China's semi-colonial and semi-feudal society deepened, educated people sought a way to revitalise China, recognising the importance of industry and education in saving the country. In —, the Qing government set up the Zhili Tutorial School in Baoding and appointed Mr Zhang Liangbi, the provincial inspector, as its first director. In —, the school was renamed "Hebei Baoding Senior Industrial Vocational School", and in —, when the Japanese invaded China and Baoding fell, the school was forced to suspend classes and relocate to Shisi Town, Xin'an County, Henan Province, and Zhouzhi and Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, where it operated with difficulty. In —, the students and staff of the Hebei Provincial Industrial Vocational School in Xi'an were incorporated into the school, and the name of the school was restored. "In —, the school was moved from Tianjin to Shijiazhuang and renamed the Hebei Provincial Industrial School. "In May —, with the approval of the Hebei Provincial Government, the school was upgraded and transformed into the Hebei Vocational College of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technology, entering the ranks of higher vocational education.

The university has 11 major categories, including biology and chemical industry, food and drug and foodstuff, medicine and health, equipment manufacturing, energy and materials, electronic information, resources, environment and safety, finance and trade, civil engineering and construction, and light industry and textile. There are 4 national key construction majors, 2 national pilot majors of modern apprenticeship system, 2 majors supported by the central government to enhance the ability of higher vocational schools to serve industrial development, and 8 majors under the national quality school project construction. Relying on the key construction majors, the university has presided over the formulation of 3 national professional teaching standards, 4 national vocational skills standards and 2 national standards for the construction of practical training teaching conditions, as well as the compilation of the "National Vocational Skills Appraisal of Chinese Medicine Dispensers Level 5 Question Bank", the completion of the "National Chemical Engineering Construction Industry Standard - Construction and Acceptance of Chemical Storage Tanks He also participated in the development of two industry standards, namely "Food Pre-treatment" and "General Skills Requirements for Inspection and Testing Positions".
