Shanghai University of international business and economics is one of the first universities to be built under the Ministry of education's "high-level international talent training and innovation practice base", the Ministry of education's "national excellent traditional culture inheritance base for ordinary universities", the Asia Pacific Training Center and the WTO chair college. The school, formerly known as Shanghai Institute of foreign trade, was founded in —. In September —, the school was put under the management of Shanghai Municipal People's government by the former Ministry of foreign trade and economic cooperation.
