Founded in April —, Northeastern University is a university with a proud tradition of patriotism. It is one of the first institutions directly under the Ministry of Education to be designated for priority development under the national “Project 211” and “Project 985” initiatives. In —, it was selected for the first round of the national “World-Class Universities” initiative, and in —, it was included in the second round of the national “Double First-Class” initiative. Over the past century, the university has consistently aligned itself with the nation’s development and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. It has cultivated the spirit embodied in its motto—“Perseverance and the Unity of Knowledge and Action”—and fostered a cultural ethos characterized by “Practicality, Service to the Nation, Innovation, and Excellence.” The university has developed distinctive strengths in technological innovation, technology transfer, and industry-university-research collaboration, making significant contributions to the nation and the Chinese people.
Northeastern University Qinhuangdao Campus (hereinafter referred to as “Qinhuangdao Campus”) is an integral part of Northeastern University. In —, with the approval of the former State Education Commission and the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, the Qinhuangdao Branch of Northeastern Institute of Technology was established. In —, Northeastern Institute of Technology was renamed Northeastern University, and the campus was subsequently renamed Northeastern University Qinhuangdao Campus. In —, along with Northeastern University, it was transferred to the direct administration of the Ministry of Education. Since its founding, the university has undertaken projects such as the “Project 211,” “Project 985,” and “Double First-Class” initiatives, as well as major national and key projects. By implementing strategies for open development, talent-driven growth, and educational innovation, it has established a diversified talent development mechanism and a scientific management system, continuously promoting quality-driven development and comprehensively enhancing the university’s overall strength and social influence. It has now developed into a vibrant and distinctive university with a strong focus on engineering and the coordinated development of multiple disciplines.
The Qinhuangdao Campus is situated in the beautiful coastal city of Qinhuangdao, backed by the Yanshan Mountains to the north and bordering the Bohai Sea to the south. It features a picturesque environment, well-equipped facilities, and a vibrant academic atmosphere. The campus covers an area of over 800 mu, with a total floor area of — square meters. It currently has 903 faculty and staff members, including 286 professionals at the associate senior level or above and 248 master’s and doctoral advisors. The campus houses the Qinhuangdao Branch of the Northeastern University Graduate School, one Sino-foreign cooperative education institution, and nine colleges. It offers 38 undergraduate programs spanning six major disciplinary categories: economics, law, literature, science, engineering, and management. The campus shares access to all of Northeastern University’s doctoral and master’s degree programs and is responsible for developing master’s programs in two first-level disciplines: optical engineering and ethnology. The results of the fifth round of the National Discipline Assessment show that the university provided strong support to Northeastern University’s discipline assessment across seven disciplinary categories and 17 first-level discipline areas.
The Qinhuangdao Campus adheres to the educational mission of “nurturing talent for the Party and the nation” and is committed to comprehensively improving the quality of talent development. It cultivates various types of highly specialized professionals, including undergraduates, master’s students, and doctoral candidates. Students who meet graduation requirements and satisfy the conditions for degree conferral within the prescribed timeframe are awarded a graduation certificate and a degree certificate from Northeastern University. Currently, the campus has — full-time undergraduate students, — master’s students, and 157 doctoral students. The quality of student admissions and graduate employment has consistently remained at a high level. Undergraduate admission scores and ranking positions have steadily improved, indicating a sustained upward trend in the quality of incoming students. The first-choice admission rate for master’s students and the proportion of students graduating from “Double First-Class” universities have risen significantly year after year. Among graduates entering the workforce in —, more than 60 percent secured positions in government agencies, state-owned and centrally administered enterprises, and leading companies in their respective industries, The number of graduates voluntarily choosing to work in western regions, take root at the grassroots level, or enlist in the military has increased year by year. Since its founding, the university has cultivated and delivered more than — high-quality, well-rounded talents to society—individuals with strong innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities and a strong sense of social responsibility.
The Qinhuangdao Campus adheres to the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education and continuously deepens educational and teaching reforms. Upholding the teaching philosophy of “Imparting Knowledge, Mastering Skills, Providing Guidance, and Pursuing Truth,” and implementing the teaching policy of “rigorous scholarship and strict standards,” the campus actively advances the development of first-class undergraduate education in accordance with Northeastern University’s requirements for “quality benchmarking and distinctive development.” Graduate education strictly adheres to Northeastern University’s “Eight Unifications” principle, refines the educational management system, rigorously monitors the training process, comprehensively implements uniform training standards, and ensures consistent training quality. The branch currently offers 5 “Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Majors” under the National “Double Ten Thousand” Plan and 5 provincial-level brand-name specialty majors; it has established 7 provincial-level undergraduate education innovation hubs, experimental teaching demonstration centers, and course-based ideological and political education demonstration centers. It has developed 56 national and provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, high-quality courses, demonstration courses, and teaching case studies. The branch boasts 1 National Model Teacher, 16 provincial-level outstanding teaching teams, 18 provincial-level distinguished teachers, and 11 provincial-level distinguished teachers and teams in course-based ideological and political education. The “Optoelectronic Sensing Technology Innovation Faculty Team” and the “Materials Engineering Faculty Team” were selected as part of the first batch of “Hebei Province Huang Danian-Style Faculty Teams in Higher Education.” Over the past five years, the university has secured a total of 26 Ministry of Education industry-academia collaboration projects for coordinated talent development and 126 Hebei Province educational reform projects, and has received nine provincial-level undergraduate teaching achievement awards.
