Guangxi University of Science and Technology (GXUST) is located in Liuzhou, a national-level historical and cultural city, an important industrial town, transportation junction and business and logistics center in southwest China. Approved by the Ministry of Education in —, the university was established by the combination of Guangxi University of Technology and Liuzhou Medical College, and is one of the general institutes of higher education under the direct administration of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

GXUST upholds the schooling philosophy as “Developing-oriented, Valuing Teachers and Students, and Training Talents as Industry Backbone and Innovative Keys”, and continues to deepen school featuring “School-City Integration and School- Enterprise Cooperation” with the mottoes of “Truth, Integrity, Morality and Innovation”. The university fully carries out the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, always sticks to the original aspiration and mission of cultivating the talents for the Party and the State, serves the economic and social development for the region, and makes more efforts to cultivate application-oriented professionals at a higher level with a strong sense of social responsibility, innovative spirit, integration of theory with practice and international perspective.

Well equipped with basic facilities and superior educational conditions, the university comprises 3 campuses (Donghuan Campus, Liushi Campus and Liudong Campus) and 2 teaching centers (Baisha and Jianpan), covering an area of nearly — mu (about 267 hectares), with a total school building area of more than — square meters, and an average teaching and research equipment value of — for each student. And now there are 16 secondary schools, 1 academic department, 19 research institutes (centers), 2 affiliated hospitals and over — full-time students. The university continues to promote the construction of smart campuses and has built a data center with a capacity of 400 physical servers, which has been included in the Urban Key Units of China Education and Research Network. GXUST has established the Tus Incubator Base for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and been awarded as the Liuzhou Branch of “Creativity, Innovation, Invention and Entrepreneurship Center” for College Students of Guangxi, and Mass Innovation Space of Guangxi.

GXUST has a relatively complete range of disciplines and distinctive features of disciplines and majors. The university focuses on engineering, and majors cover 9 disciplines including engineering, management, science, medicine, economics, literature, law, art, and education. In —, approved by the Academic Degree Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the university has been authorized to set up and build doctoral programs with rights to confer Doctoral Degree. Up to now, the university has 3 disciplines authorized to develop doctoral programs, 2 provincial level first-class disciplines (cultivation), 9 provincial level key disciplines of Guangxi colleges and universities, 9 first-level disciplines qualified of awarding Master Degree, and 9 categories with the authorization for conferring Professional Master Degree, covering more than 40 professional directions, 69 undergraduate majors and 10 junior college majors. One major has passed the international effective equivalence certification and one has passed the professional evaluation certification of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and 10 has been included in the first batch of undergraduate enrollment; GXUST also has 3 national characteristic professional construction sites, 1 ministerial “Professional Comprehensive Reform Pilot” major, 3 national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 13 autonomous region-level first-rate undergraduate major construction sites, 3 major construction programs for vocational education teachers of the Ministry of Education, 10 high quality majors at provincial level in Guangxi, 9 integration construction programs of characteristic majors and curriculum in Guangxi higher education institutions, 6 advantageous characteristic majors at the autonomous region level, and 7 construction projects of teaching bases (centers) of characteristic majors and experimental training in Guangxi undergraduate institutions; 6 autonomous region-level experimental teaching demonstration centers and 2 autonomous region-level virtual simulation experimental teaching centers; 3 national first-class undergraduate courses; 25 autonomous region-level first-class undergraduate courses and 21 autonomous region-level excellent courses. The university has jointly established the first-rate disciplines and majors with Liuzhou City, and will receive a total of 100 million yuan from the city in funding for university development within 5 years.

The talent training system of the university is sound, and the training quality has been constantly improved. The professional talent training program reflects the concept of student-centered, results-oriented and continuous improvement, reasonably sets the total credits of the first class, reconstructs the professional course system and teaching content, and promotes the depth, difficulty and challenge of the course. In December —, the university successfully passed the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. In the past five years, teachers of GXUST have won 31 autonomous region-level teaching achievement awards, including 9 first prizes; students participated in “Internet +” “Challenge Cup”, mathematical modeling, electronic design and other discipline competitions and won more than 400 national awards. Participating in the — China Formula Student Car Race and the — China University Student Formula Electric Race, GXUST won the runner-up respectively and won 51 gold medals in the National College Student Rock Climbing Championship. Participating in the 11th Guangxi Student Games, the university won the first place in the general undergraduate group team score. And the men’s basketball team won the championship of the general undergraduate group in the 12th Guangxi Student Games. The employment rate of graduates has been maintained at a high level, and the university has been conferred the title of “Outstanding Unit of Employment and Entrepreneurship Work for College Graduates in Guangxi” for successive years. It has implemented the quality improvement project of ideological and political work, “Young Marxists Training Programs” and the Party’s basic knowledge education programs for college students, and achieved remarkable results. The main channel role of classroom education has been fully brought into play, and the education and teaching reform of “Curriculum with Ideology and Politics” has been steadily advanced. The university continues to promote the “Full Participation in Education, Whole Process of Education and All-round Education” and actively constructs the practical education system of “Three Collaborations and Ten Platforms”. GXUST has a reasonable structure and excellent teachers. There are more than — faculty members, and nearly 50% of the full-time teachers have senior professional titles. There are 21 teachers who are experts enjoying the special government allowance from the State Council, Bagui scholars, Guangxi special experts, Guangxi outstanding experts, or the second level of the Guangxi One Hundred Thousand Talents Project candidates, or outstanding scholars of Guangxi universities, or the “Hundred Talents Program” for the introduction of high-level overseas talents in Guangxi universities. Since the implementation of the “— High-Level Talent Program” in —, more than 260 doctoral degree teachers have joined the university. Meanwhile, GXUST vigorously support teachers to study for doctoral degrees, select key teachers to study abroad, and go to enterprises and institutions for temporary training.
