Chongqing University of Science and Technology is a full-time public university offering both bachelor and master degree programs. It was officially established with the approval of the ministry of Education in May — through the merger of two well-reputed colleges founded in — under the administration of two ministries of central government, viz.-Chongqing Polytechnic College and Chongqing Petroleum College. The latter was awarded as a key college listed in the national model tertiary technical college. The university is the proud recipient of multiple titles, including, a pilot unit of the National Education Training Program for Excellent Engineers, a deputy-directorial member of the National Association of Universities of Applied Sciences , a deputy-directorial member of the National Union of New Colleges and Universities, a directorial member of Chongqing Municipal Universities Transformation and Development Alliance. It has been strongly supported by Chongqing Municipal government as a high-level new engineering college, and rated a National Model College in Innovation And Entrepreneurship as well as National Model College in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform. CQUST covers an area of nearly 140 hectares, with a total built-up area of more than — square meters that houses497 million Yuan worth of research equipment .. It is located in the University town of Chongqing high-tech zone, which is regarded as the intellectual core of the Chongqing science city under construction and the important base of the western China scientific and technological innovation center. Next to Gele Mountain National Forest Park in the east and Jinyun Mountain National Forest Park in the west, the university is an ideal place to study, do sports, and enjoy life with its ample facilities. The library has an area of more than — square meters housing 1.91 million printed books, and over 1.92 million e-books, and an abundant collection of digital resources. The university is recognized as a garden-style institution of higher learning in Chongqing.

At present, it has more than — faculty members, with over — full-time teachers, including 3 members of China Engineering Academy, 610 teachers with senior professional titles , over 400 doctoral degree holders, and90 percent of the faculty have master’s degrees or above. There are more than 120 high-calibre talents at provincial and ministerial levels such as members of University Teaching Guidance Committee of the Education Ministry, national technical talents, Chongqing Talent Program, Bayu Scholars Program, academic (industrial) technology leaders, Young and Middle-aged Pillar Teachers etc. There are more than — full-time students, including more than 600 postgraduates and 400 international students. In recent years, the employment rate of postgraduates has remained at 100 percent, and that of undergraduates has remained above 90 percent.

CQUST has 16 schools: School of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, School of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, School of Electrical Engineering, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, School of Safety Engineering (School of Emergency Management), School of Marxism, School of Business Administration, School of Law, Political Science, Business and Trade, School of Mathematics and Big Data, School of Foreign Language, School of Humanities and Arts, Department of Sports Science and Physical Education, School of Intelligent Technology and Engineering, Normal School of Vocational and Technical Education (School of Continuing Education, Self-Education Examination Department). The university runs 7 professional and academic master’s programs in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, Safety Engineering, Geography Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering, Chemistry and other fields. It runs 65 undergraduate programs: Petroleum Engineering, Metallurgy Engineering, Mechanical Design Manufacturing and Automation, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Internet of Things Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Civil Engineering, Safety Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Accounting, International Economies and Trade, English, Art and Design, etc. Among them, Petroleum Engineering and Metallurgy Engineering are national first-class majors, and 17 majors such as Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Automation, Chemistry Engineering and Technology, Civil Engineering, Safety Engineering, Computer Science and Technology are first-class majors in Chongqing. It has 2 national-level specialty majors, 5 majors in the National Program for the Educational Cultivation of Excellent Engineers and 16 municipal-level specialty majors. Additionally, 8 majors have received the accreditation from t Engineering Education Accreditation Association to enter the ‘top tier’ of global engineering education.

The university continues to deepen the reform of education and teaching, and expand the development of teaching platform, curriculum and teaching materials. In the teaching achievement recognition contest in the most recent two years, , the university has won 2 prizes of national-level teaching achievement, 14 provincial- or ministerial-level teaching achievements in total. It has built 2 national-level and 8 municipal-level Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, 1 national-level and 3 municipal-level Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Centers, and 4 national-level Engineering Practice Education Centers. The university has 3 national-level excellent courses, including “Hydraulic Transmission Technology". Our students have won more than 400 national-level awards in competitions such as Mathematical Contest in Modeling, electronic design and production, robots, dance, or athletics, etc. The university won the championship of the 9th and 14th World Simulated Steel-making Challenge in — and — respectively, swept the top 5 in the 10th World Network Steel-making Contest in Mainland China in —, and won the silver medals in the 44th and 45th World Skills Competition.
