Hebei Normal University is a key provincial university jointly established by the People's Government of Hebei Province and the Ministry of Education, and a first-class university under the "double first-class" construction in Hebei Province. In June —, the former Hebei Normal University and Hebei Normal College were merged with the Hebei College of Education, which was founded in —, and the Hebei Vocational and Technical Teachers' College, which was founded in —, to form the new Hebei Normal University. In —, the university moved to a new campus. The new campus covers an area of — mu, with a library of 3.18 million books and 67 Chinese and foreign language databases. The university now has 25 professional colleges and one independent college (Huihua College). The university has 11 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degree and 1 professional degree authorization point for doctoral degree; 29 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degree and 19 professional degree authorization points for master's degree; and 93 undergraduate majors. The academic disciplines cover ten disciplines, including philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management and art. Focusing on the credit system, top-up internship support and large class enrollment and training, three fundamental changes in undergraduate teaching have been promoted: the credit system reform has been continuously improved to meet the needs of students for self-design and independent development. A complete teacher education system has been built, with the integration of basic education, vocational education and higher education teacher training. In June —, when Premier Li Keqiang visited the university, he spoke highly of the university's practice of training students at the grassroots level and the students' willingness to work at the grassroots level. The reform of large class enrollment and training has been implemented to strengthen liberal arts education. The university has actively developed non-teaching majors, initially formed four training modes, and built a new pattern of talent training in which teacher-training majors and non-teaching majors develop together. New progress was made in scientific research. It has undertaken a number of national key research and development programmes, major special projects for breeding new varieties of genetically modified organisms, major science and technology infrastructure projects of the National Development and Reform Commission, key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key international (regional) collaborative research projects, projects of the National Excellent Youth Science Foundation, major bidding projects of the National Social Science Foundation of China, major commissioned projects of the Marxist Theory Research and Construction Project, and the National Qing History Compilation Project. The project has a large impact on scientific research projects such as the main category of projects. The research group of academician Sun Daye won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, filling a gap in Hebei Province; the doctoral dissertation supervised by Professor Jiang Chunlan was ranked among the "100 best blogs in China". The research results of humanities and social sciences have been awarded the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Higher Education, the National Dictionary Award and the Lu Xun Literature Award. He has published many high level academic papers in authoritative academic journals at home and abroad, such as Science, Nature, Cell and Chinese Social Sciences.
