Jiangsu Maritime Institute is a full-time higher vocational college approved by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, a demonstration vocational college in Jiangsu Province, and a construction unit of high-level vocational college in Jiangsu Province. Founded in —, the school is the first specialized school for training ocean going seamen jointly organized by the Ministry of Communications of the Central People's Government and the China Seamen's Federation after the founding of P.R.China. In the past 70 years, the school has been renamed, transferred, merged and upgraded several times. The major has been expanded in an all-round way, the school scale has been expanded, the school conditions have been improved, and the connotation construction has been deepened. Nearly — excellent alumni have been cultivated successively, all over the world, including Chen Hongze, a famous navigator, Ye Weilong, vice president of COSCO Shipping Group, Cao Desheng, director of the State Maritime Administration of China, and Chen Shaoze, director of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing Municipal People's Congress and a large number of other elite leaders. Three campuses with distinctive characteristics
The school is located in the ancient city Nanjing, which is the origin of Zheng He's seven voyages to the West. It has three campuses, Jiangning, Qinhuai and Banqiao, covering a total area of — mu. Jiangning campus is located at the foot of the beautiful Fangshan Mountain and the core area of Jiangning University City. It is adjacent to China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing Medical University, Nanjing Xiaozhuang University, Communication University of China, Nanjing and other famous universities, sharing multiple educational resources. Qinhuai campus is located in the bustling business district of Nanjing City, with convenient transportation and a large number of merchants. It has been built into one of the few provincial university science and Technology Parks in Jiangsu Vocational Colleges, which integrates the functions of education, scientific research, technology transfer and transformation, and business incubation. Banqiao campus is located on the Bank of the Yangtze River. It has the only dedicated internship ship wharf and berthing internship ship in the national maritime colleges and universities. The public training base of modern shipping technology in the Yangtze River Delta approved by the national development and Reform Commission plans to build a — square meter industry Education Integration Science and technology park.
Professional layout of one body and two wings
Focusing on serving the modern shipping industry chain, the school has established seven professional groups, including navigation technology, marine engineering and new energy application, ship and marine engineering equipment manufacturing, ship port electrical and intelligent control, shipping economy and management, information technology and artificial intelligence, culture and tourism and design, and moderately expanded marine leisure, marine finance, new energy, new materials, artificial intelligence and other related fields, and form a professional layout of "one body, two wings, land and water, cluster development". There are 7 major clusters and 44 specialties in the university, including 7 national key specialties, 3 central finance supporting service industry development ability specialties, 3 demonstration point specialties of the Ministry of Communications, 18 provincial brand characteristic specialties, 18 provincial brand cultivation specialties and 4 provincial key specialty clusters. The school has 712 faculty and staff, including 512 full-time faculty members. There are 162 faculty with senior titles or above, accounting for 31.6% of full-time faculty; 48 faculty with doctorate degree, and 92% of full-time faculty are double qualified teachers.
