Suzhou Art&Design Technology Institute is the first higher vocational college of art and design in China, formerly known as "Suzhou Art&Design Technology Institute" founded in August —. In —, Suzhou Arts and Crafts institute and Suzhou Light Industry Workers University jointly established Suzhou Art&Design Technology Institute, which became the first independent higher vocational college of art and design in China. In —, the university obtained excellent results in the evaluation of personnel training level of higher vocational colleges. In —, it became one of the first "Demonstration higher Vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province". In —, it was selected as the construction college of "National Demonstrative Higher Vocational College Construction Plan". In —, the university's national backbone college construction project won the "Excellent" grade in the acceptance of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. In —, the institute was awarded the construction Unit of High-level Higher Vocational Colleges in Jiangsu Province. The institute is located at the foot of the ancient Wu resort stone Lake, with a long history and profound culture, creating a good atmosphere for the growth of numerous students. It has seven secondary institutes, including institute of Manual Art, institute of Fine Arts, institute of Visual Communication, institute of Environmental Art, institute of Fashion Design, institute of Industrial Design and institute of Digital Art. The university has the Sino-French Jiangsu Art and Design Education Research Center jointly established by jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and The Education Bureau of Paris, France, and the Sino-British Suzhou Art and Design Education Innovation Center jointly established by the university of Southampton. It has four workstations in France, the Netherlands, Austria and the United Kingdom, and has established cooperative relations with 78 universities in 28 countries, including France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, the United States and the Netherlands.
