Yunnan Vocational and Technical College of Agriculture is a full-time public higher education institution approved by the Yunnan Provincial People's Government and registered by the Ministry of Education. The school has the brand of Yunnan Breeding and Promotion Center.
The predecessor of the College is Yunnan sericulture school, which was founded in —. It is the first of its kind in Yunnan vocational education. It is a higher vocational college that integrates agriculture, food and medicine, general health, engineering, economic management, electronic information and other specialties with its advantages and characteristics. It is a national high-quality vocational college, a national high-quality school for rural revitalization talents training, a model higher vocational college in Yunnan Province, a model school for socialist core values education in Yunnan Province, a national demonstration base for cultivating new professional farmers and a national pilot unit for modern apprenticeship. It is "China-Myanmar Agricultural Technology Training Center" of the Ministry of Agriculture, the national demonstration base for cultivating new professional farmers, the training base for high-quality provincial vocational education teachers, the Yunnan Agricultural Vocational Education Training Center, and the Yunnan Farmers Entrepreneurship Guidance Service Center. The College consists of eight colleges and three departments (College of Agriculture and Horticulture Technology, College of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, College of Food, Medicine and Great Health, College of Engineering, College of Internet Technology, College of Economics and Management, College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, College of Marxism, Foundation Department, Sports Department, Ministry of Public Art and Education). There are 571 faculty members, including 28 professors, 118 associate professors, 1 Yunling famous teacher, 16 doctoral students and 213 master students. The College offers 54 majors with — registered students. Among them, horticulture technology, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, and engineering cost are recognized as national backbone majors by the Ministry of Education, while horticulture technology, engineering cost, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, crop production technology, Chinese herbal medicine cultivation technology, agricultural product processing and quality inspection, and financial management are seven provincial backbone majors.
The existing College has Jiaoling Campus, Xiaoshao Campus and Malong Campus (Yunnan Mountain Animal Husbandry Science and Technology Demonstration Park), which covers an area of over — mu. Shaoxiao campus has more than 700 acres of internship farms, and Malone campus has more than — acres of training bases. At present, there are 76 on-campus training bases, 126 experimental training rooms and 188 off-campus training bases. The predecessor of the College was Yunnan sericulture school founded in —. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was renamed Kunming Agricultural Technology School. In —, Yunnan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary School was established. In —, Kunming Agricultural Technical School was renamed Yunnan Agricultural School. In —, with the approval of Yunnan Provincial People's Government, Yunnan Agricultural School and Yunnan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary School merged to form Yunnan Agricultural Vocational and Technical College. In —, the school was managed by the Department of Education, and Yunnan Breeding and Poultry Breeding and Promotion Center was incorporated into the school and the brand of Yunnan Breeding and Promotion Center was added to the school. In the 117-year history of running a school, the school has delivered more than — agricultural science and technology talents to the society.
